As I Am Curl Color REVIEW

This week I was feeling really playful and wanted to experiment with hair color! I have been wanting to dye my hair lighter for some time now, but have withheld due to concerns of damaging my curls after all of my hard work to restore them. After seeing As I Am's "Curl Color" advertised on my social media, I was extremely intrigued as it is targeted towards textured hair, and I ran to their website to purchase this safe alternative.

As I Am is a completely vegan & cruelty-free brand, which is the primary reason why I support them. Water is the first ingredient in this product, and it manufactured in the United States. As I Am describes their Curl Color as a "Color and Curling Gel," which means that it doubles as a styling product! It is also noted that their Curl Color "Improves hair moisture by 84%" and "Strengthens the hair by 6% after one application." (AsIAmnaturally.com)

After ordering on April 4th, my Curl Color was already shipped on the 6th, and was delivered by the 8th! I was very impressed with how quick and efficient this process was, and the option to receive text updates on my shipping status was really handy. I went ahead and purchased the "Bold Gold" color choice. I wasn't looking to be blonde, but more so bring out golden undertones in my dark hair. I was really amazed by the photos and reviews online, so I knew that I would be able to achieve this. Upon receiving my package, the 6oz tube is quite sleek and aesthetically pleasing to look at, and the gel smells AMAZING! I am obsessed with this fragrance! 10/10.

The product instructs you to use it on wet but not dripping hair. After washing my hair using Maui Moisture's Curl Quench shampoo & conditioner, I combed through my hair per usual with my PATTERN leave-in conditioner. In my typical hair routine, I use a styling cream followed by a gel, so I went in with my Shea Moisture Curl Enhancing Smoothie. When applying the As I Am Curl Color, the tub advises you to wear gloves, but I decided against this. I didn't have any gloves on hand and I wasn't using as bold of a color. In addition to the "Bold Gold" color I selected, As I Am also offers five additional colors: "Hot Red," "Cool Blue," "Passion Purple," "Sassy Silver," and "Emerald Green." I used my fingers to run the gel through my hair and distributed the product with a comb. Because this product is a gel, I was slightly hesitant to overuse it in fear that my hair would become too hard or crunchy. Little did I know, that was a worry I definitely did not need.

After completing my styling regimen and diffusing my hair, my curls were looking so juicy and bouncy. My hair felt lightweight and was extremely fluffy and soft to the touch. The gel did wonders, and regardless of the color I would for sure reccomend this gel and add it to my curl routine. In terms of the color, I'm not going to lie, in normal lighting, I really couldn't see a difference. Later that day I went to work and to the nail salon and no one but me even noticed the subtle change. But once I stepped into the sun, I could seriously tell and I loved the way it looked! It almost looks like I had honey-colored highlights, or had lightened my hair ever so slightly. It felt like I had used a good amount, however, I certainly could have been more generous when applying the gel for a brighter color rather than a tint. Because I didn't use as much as maybe I should have, I didn't notice a whole lot of transfer of color to my skin or clothing. I have a habit of twisting my front curl around my finger, and all it did was disperse gold glitter to my hands that easily came off with water. I wonder if I had gone with a brighter color such as the red if this would be any different.

For the affordable price of just $7.99, the product did exactly what it needed to do. Not only does it give off a sweet, tropical scent, it also gives an amazing hold to my curls that held up throughout my day and even on to day 2 of not washing my hair. I would certainly recommend this to a friend and I'm intrigued to try more products by As I Am! I will for sure be using this gel again, and next time applying more to get a brighter color! As always, leave a comment down below if you have any questions or are interesting in trying out this product yourself!
